Points
Here at Answerbag, our members tell us what content they like by awarding Points to the best questions and answers. These points help us (and you!) determine which questions and answers are the most helpful, most interesting, or most appreciated.
Members earn points too!
Not only do questions and answers earn points, but members earn points! When you rate someone's question or answer positively, that item earns points, and the person who submitted that item also earns points. And, the higher your level is, the more points they earn. Earn points quickly by getting good votes from senior members.
Note: Positive votes give points to other members, but negative votes do not deduct points from other members – they only help us rank questions and answers. That keeps everything friendly!
It seems to me that it goes like this:
1-2 beginner
3-4 novice
5-9 contributor
10-14 whiz
15-19 authority
20-29 expert
30-39 professor
40+ brain. I don't know anyone higher than that.
Obviously, the higher the better. The higher number you get, the higher your level will go.
Its a government conspiracy to see how really bored we all are. Maybe a little monkey suit and a trip to the moon.
The points propel you up the "levels" of this board. And there's a good side effect of being a high level AB member: the points you give to or take from other people weigh more and more as you "level up". The -6 points given to you by six stupid trolls could be effectively erased by a high-ranking AB member once he clicks the "helpful" button to your favor.
First to a million points gets a million dollars.
(No, not really)
An award from a AB user, for giving a good answer.
The points total up and level you up.
I'm not here mainly to get points but to help people out. The points thing is just disaster when it comes to popularity, cliques, and so on. If you want, you can commit bagacide like Stableboy did and ask Joel to delete all your points once in a while.
A gratifying sense of well-being and satisfaction. Those are the best prizes life can offer! :-)
Their to keep you coming back to AB. and to improve your answers and questions.
To get to a higher level to say if you think there question or opinion was good or bad
Just for self congratulation, or for other people to say they have appreciated what you have written
Markers along a continuum.
AB-elitism.
A $5.00 gift card from Macy's.
Addicted, so that you keep trying to get more points.
Dress in drag and do the hula. If that doesn't work, you could always try answering questions with thoughtful, helpful, and accurate answers. You could also try asking thought-provoking, helpful answers. People will rate you, and you will accumulate points. In return, your rating is worth more points, and your badge changes. If you find any way I can exchange them for frequent flier miles, let me know.
wait, a set of steak knives.

The points are a system of levels to see how well you can help others by answering there question to the fullest extent.
Without questions, there would be nothing to answer nor to moderate. So why are questions worth less pointwise than moderating?

Is answering your own question and awarding it "Asker's Pick" comparable to voting for yourself in an election? Should everyone do it?
