Are computer graphics getting good enough to replace actors in movies? If it is are we going to see dead actors act again... John Wayne westerns again I wonder?

Anti-Semantic - ORIGINAL All-Black Avatar Oh, come on, that sounds like a crazy consipracy theory to me. If I remember well (I've seen FF:TSW 4 times) the movie didn't do well because it WASN'T A GOOD MOVIE - It had nothing to do with any Final Fantasy game, and was too much like a science fiction film with a cheesy script...I just watched it those 4 times because I'm a die-hard Final Fantasy fan, and to me, the animation was clearly the best part.

Anti-Semantic - ORIGINAL All-Black Avatar At long last, I am done. Although the essay was definataley very well-constructed, and made quite a case for the so-called "uncanny valley" effect - I'm still convinced that it is reading too much into the failure of FF: The Spirits Within at the critical and financial level.

The essay argues that the movie didn't follow the "traditional hollywood formula" for movies. I think it actually did, but again, it failed because it simply wasn't a groundbreaking movie; there wasn't much real emotion, and the story is just a mix of things which have already been done...However, I think the author will be quite surprised, once movies based on video games really start to pick up - which, I think they will, soon. Final Fantasy: Advent Children did tremendously well just through DVD sales, and it could have done well at the box office as well - I'm sure if Square-Enix does return to the box office, it'll do much better than it did with FF:TSW, which was almost 10 years ago.

Anti-Semantic - ORIGINAL All-Black Avatar Yeah, but I know of many people (albeit mostly morons) who thought the movie Beowulf was a live-action movie, the first few times they saw the previews.

Forever Beowulf is live action as it uses real actors. It's style purposfully makes them look less real, kinda like Sin City's comic book style.

csimme01 and Ninja Cooper UNMASKED Sorry Kiminy.. The charactors in Beowulf were all CGI. They were digitized versions of real people but no people acted in the movie. The actors spent time in front of a "green screen" and motion capture equipment to have their images and body motion captured. After that the digital images were processed on a computer and used to create the movie which is billed as animation.

Forever oh sorry, i'm not very technically minded and probably should have looked up the term 'live action'. I watched an interview with Ray Winstone on Friday Night with Johnathon Ross and he spoke about Beowulf as if it was a live action film, insisting its not at all like animation because you have real live people doing real life acting for it. It's a different ball game from something like Final Fantasy; the computer graphics are hardly 'replacing' the actors.

I did some more research after I left you the comment and You and I are both correct (or both wrong) They did "Act" but not in the traditional sense. I am sorry I called you wrong. No hard feelings I hope! ;^)
