Will iPad catch fire with consumers?

The iPad is all apple can talk about now, but the product seems to be a giant iPhone that can't make calls or take pictures. Without Leopard OS or Snow Leopard as its operating system will this wave of the future still catch fire... I mean literally catch on fire, or will the kitsch be enough to create lines outside the Apple store?

I think if they market it to college students with the availability of textbooks in .pdf format, it may plant a seed in society for those whom aren't students (kind of like the way it happened for Facebook).

I've heard of laptop batteries exploding or overheating, so it is quite possible that the ipad could quite feasibly burst into flames, whether it will or not is another matter.
Personally I think Apple should have stuck with making Macs, because there are manufacturers out there who make far superior 'phones and MP3 players.

The iPad sucks. There is no reason to buy one, and Apple mad a horrifically bad decision releasing it as it is. More features needed to be added on.

Frankly I can see no practical use for this scaled up I phone.....it's just another gimmicky toy for the tech nerd set.

I feel that in light of the economic situation around the world, it will be difficult for a device very similar to the iphone to sell right now. It would appear to be a poor decision by apple to release the ipad, which seems to be nothing special as compared to their iphone
