Dr. Peter Safar
James Elam?
I'm going to vacation in Pittsburgh at the end of this month (BF's family lives there), and I want to know, what do you recommend I see while I'm there? I'm already going to Carnegie Mellon, but I want to know what else, from food to entertainment, etc.

A distinguished professor of resuscitation medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Dr. Safar was the driving force behind both cardiopulmonary resuscitation and critical care medicine. He developed this country's first intensive care unit and paramedic ambulance service, and was nominated three times for the Nobel Prize in medicine.
Copied and pasted from http://www.post-gazette.com/obituaries/20030805safar0805p1.asp He died at his Mt. Lebanon home, but studied at the Univ. of Pittsburgh.

How confusing. . .two fathers of CPR?
by KagomeShuko on April 5th, 2007
His name turned up when I Googled: "The Father of CPR"
by Penny The Wise on April 5th, 2007
Together with James Elam he re-discovered the Airway, head tilt-chin lift [Step A]] and the mouth-to-mouth breathing [Step B] components of CPR, and influenced Norwegian doll maker Asmund Laerdal Laerdal company to design and manufacture mannequins for CPR training called Resusci Anne®.
AHA! So they are The Father(S) of CPR. Okay, so points to both I suppose?
by Penny The Wise on April 5th, 2007
Yeah, I didn't know who at all. . just saw the question and it made me curious, so yep points to both. . it seems both are actually very important when it comes to CPR.
