Help answer this question below.
LimeWire has made improvement to its software to decrease the chances of identity theft. Earlier versions of the software would automatically mark some or all of the files in a user's "Shared files" folder for sharing. More recent versions have been changed so that no files on a user's computer are automatically shared, no matter what folder they are in. A user must manually designate a file for sharing before it will be shared. Since files are downloaded directly from one user's computer to another user's computer, LimeWire does not scan these files for viruses. That means that if a user downloads a file with a virus, they will receive the virus, unless they have security software in place that will scan and cancel the download. The company has made an effort to keep users safe from identity theft, but your safety is up to you. How you choose to use LimeWire and the precautions that you take will play a big part in whether or not LimeWire is safe. You need to have antivirus software installed, scan any files that you want to download and make sure that all of your private files are not marked for sharing. These precautions should keep you safe when downloading files from LimeWire. On One Hand: LimeWire Does What it Can
On the Other: LimeWire is Still a P2P File Sharing Service
Bottom Line

yeah as long as you dont buy into fake advertisements, or music downloads that say "rare" or suggest all the other artists. if your downloading music, which is the only file i recommend downloading, make sure its' around 3,000 to 8,000 bytes
try downloads.nl they let you listen to the song before you download it and it's also free! =P
Limewire itself is relatively safe, just watch what files the program is having you share. You can change the sharing folder manually. Also, remember that it is a peer to peer file sharing network, you really don't know what you're getting until you get it. Files may be mislabeled. Also with the music industry all up in arms about illigal downloads you never know who might be trying to monitor activity.
Limewire is FREE!
Limewire will only cost money if you want to buy LimewirePRO. (Gives you Faster downloads)
I have Limewire and you can change the bitrate of the music so you only get high quality excellent sounding music.
I have had occasions where some things weren't safe BUT... Limewire will warn you when it finds something unsafe.
Don't worry I have been using it for Years to buy some of the hottest music.
