The seatbelt was invented in Sweden by Nils Bohlin, the Swedish inventor and engineer. Bohlin spent years trying to prove that the seatbelt would save lives, and the seatbelt was first used in the United States around 1960.Source:

Even with the warning "cars in mirror are closer than they appear" printed on the passenger side rear-view mirror; doesn't making things appear smaller pose a danger of driver misjudging distance and possibly causing an accident.?
