Amoebiasis is an infection of the gastrointestinal tract (the system of organs in the body that digests food) caused by the fecal amoeba called Entamoeba histolytica. The amoeba causing the condition particularly affects the intestines. You can contract the amoeba that causes the infection by the ingestion of food that has been cooked or handled in an unsanitary fashion. The preparer of the food might have poor hygiene or been in contact with fecal matter. Amoebiosis can also be contracted via drinking water. This could be done when you are drinking unfiltered water. Also, ponds, lakes and streams might contain the amoeba. Amoebiasis can also be caused by contact with people without good hygiene. This could include something as simple and innocent as shaking hands. Some of the symptoms include abdominal cramps, nausea and fatigue. If not addressed as soon as possible, the amoeba can eat through the intestinal tract and escape into the bloodstream, where it has free access to the body and can wreak further damage. Your doctor can prescribe medications that take care of amoeba, whether they are in the gastrointestinal system or the bloodstream. Make sure you eat well-prepared food and drink filtered water, as well as have a great sanitary system.Causes: Food
