Obagi Blender, manufactured by Obagi Medical Products Inc., is a skin care lotion designed to even skin tone and lighten dark skin. The main ingredient in Obagi Blender is hydroquinone, an organic chemical compound known to decrease the formation of melanin, which is the pigment that makes skin dark. Obagi Blender lightens dark spots on the skin, improves acne and refines overall skin texture. It corrects skin tone at the cellular level, and it's been formulated to work with Retin-A, a popular acne medication. When mixed with tretinoin, the acid form of vitamin A found in Retin-A, Obagi Blender stimulates the production of collagen and elastin to promote skin elasticity. Initial use of Obagi Blender may lead to some temporary burning, stinging, redness and skin peeling. There's also a risk of allergic reaction, with symptoms including hives, rash and swelling of the face, mouth and throat. Lightening the skin may increase the risk of UV damage and skin cancer. There remains serious debate as to whether or not hydroquinone itself is a carcinogen.
