I do wonder though:
How is it that youth offenders would be given life without parole sentences? I was not aware that a sentence like that could be imposed upon a minor.

There are a lot of really sad prison stats in the United States. Keeping people in jail, whether they should be or not makes money for people with just enough power to keep the system operating as it does. You might find the story attached to this link interesting.

The punishment should fit the crime, if they stole a packet of gum and got that sentence, then obviously i'd be on their side but there is just no helping some people if they are a danger to society.
