I still have two friends via e-mail. Pretty much lost everyone else because of moving. Some days I miss my old friends

Actually, no. And very unfortuntate it is too. I have moved such vast distances all over the world that it has been difficult to keep up with all of them. Some I have found again through the internet but those who also moved before I had the internet seem to have been lost forever. Very sad.

No, sad to say. Most of my friends from school faded from my life after I went into the military. I backed away from making anything other than acquaintances for many years after Vietnam, perhaps because losing my friends in Vietnam made me kinda close myself off a bit as a self-protective measure. When I was in business and industry, competitiveness was the order of the day and friends were mostly "friends of convenience." It wasn't until I retired and bought my Harley that I began to relax and make actual friends again. Kind of a sad story, but not all that uncommon.

yes i do and no matter how far apart we are we will find a way to see each other again. I can't let them go because life would just be boring without them.

    Not at all!
Life is a kind of filter - after a few years you have one or two friends that come form childhood or student years.

Some of them. Strangely enough I have found my friends from my childhood and we connected as if we had never stopped seeing each other. It's a good thing to keep in touch with your friends from the past, they keep you grounded, remind you of a time when things were simpler, more innocent. They help you stay in touch with the real you in this world of twisted morals and competition.

Old friends tend to go away unless you keep in touch with them often. It is quite difficult to maintain long distance friends so unless you visit often or plan yearly get togethers, it is difficult...

My sister who is 7 years younger than I am is my oldest friend. My son (43) is my best friend. Old School has been a dear friend for over 25 years, although he will only admit to 5-6 years because he cannot believe he is that old. Jim came into my life in 1995 as a friend and we became really good friends and we have been together since mid-1997. School-time friends are long gone..lost touch. Work friends never last..friendship at work doesn't necessarily translate to one's personal life after the working relationship ends. :)

  • by dea_ex_machina on April 12th, 2009

    dea_ex_machina

No - I have never been one for keeping friends - I am not good at staying in touch with people. They know where I am if they want me.
Having said that, I still contact occasionally the people I grew up with. But I have moved around a lot, and so have they, so I no longer live anywhere near any of the people I grew up with.
