After the fix, Toyota will back to the highest standards. I've owned them since 1990, and always got the most out of them. Now I own an Avalon and a Solara Convertible. I'm waiting for a hybrid convertible and a hybrid Avalon to trade. I hear that the Avalon is to be discontinued. I'll take whatever replaces it.
yo! the Japanese know how to make a car. My family has been on toyotas and hondas for 20 something years. so maybe im 15 lol but i drive one now. and i love it. its kinda amazing lol
You bet I'd consider a Toyota; I've always considered them good value for money. Toyota dealers would probably be willing to make good deals right now as well.
I would rather buy a American made car.
Yes. Why not? Just because a few types of Toyota's had recalls? Not a good enough reason. Thats like saying, I'll never drive because theres a chance I'll get into an accident. Japanese people know their stuff when it comes to vehicles. I love their cars!
I currently drive a Toyota pickup truck, and know many people who have had very good experiences with Toyota vehicles.
Are Toyotas perfect? No.
Anything made by people will have imperfections.
But the current bru-ha-ha about Toyota's problems is overblown.
For example, the recent complaints about Prius brakes involves a couple hundred cars out the many tens of thousands of Priora (correct plural of Pruis....;-D...) sold.
I think this is much like the Audi 'unintended acceleration' fiasco of the 1980s, where the media hype became highly disconnected from the reality of the situation.
Hey every auto maker has had a problem in the past it was toyotas turn this time but it was a big one. I own a Camray now an if I could afford a new or newer one I would buy one
This is nothing new with me. It is just that the rest of the world is finally coming to the position I've held for years. I used to do most of the work on my own Ford and I would frequently do little jobs on my friend's cars. Since most of my friends drove Toyotas, I did a fair few little jobs on them. I noticed years ago that Toyota put all their eggs in one basket: the drive train. That was why they had such a good reputation, they just kept on running. However, there is more to a car than the drive train and the bodies were crap. I can't tell you how many door handles and window regulators I've replaced on those things. The gas pedal is just part and parcel of that culture. It also shows that they aren't very willing to admit their mistakes and fix them.
No car is perfect, and unlike the Wonderful One-Hoss Shay, most automakers cut corners somewhere in order to keep the car affordable to the average person. You aren't going to get anywhere by sticking your head in the sand and pretending that one automaker builds a car so good that you can just buy it on faith. They all cut corners somewhere, or they price themselves out of the market. If you can afford a Mercedes, BMW or Honda, by all means go ahead and get one. They are a little better than the others, but not so much so that I'd be willing to pay the extra money. As for the others, they all have their weak spot, you just have to decide which one you can live with.
Nope,never will. Nothing wrong with Fords,Dodges and even,well,Chevys. :):):)
I ONLY buy american cars. But, I once had a foreign car. Back in 1967, I owned a 1964 MG, I loved that car. It would go 100 miles on a 'Promise' of gas.
anything BUT toyota.
I would definitely consider it. They are under pressure now and know the whole world is watching Toyota. I think their dealers would be desperate to make good deals just to unload some right now. They would also probably give additional guarantees in view of the recall.
Even though Toyota is a good automobile it's very unlikely that I would consider buying one. I'm a die hard Mopar fan from way back and I have always had good luck with them. I now own a 2001 Dodge Dakota and have had great success with it.
I drive a 2007 Matrix, and it's the best car I have ever owned. Every other car manufacturer has recalls every year. I don't know why Toyota is having such an example made of them. Guess what--if your car's accelerator gets stuck, turn the car off.
Toyota makes good cars - but I prefer GM & Ford products.
Toyotas have made good reliable cars for many years. They finally messed up but that wouldn't stop me from buying one of their cars. The only reason I wouldn't buy their cars is because they lack style. To me what counts in a car is performance, price, reliability and style. Toyota has the first three covered but they lack the style.
no I will never drive a forgien car.
i drive a 1975 toyota corolla and it runs better than a lot of american cars out there, it will smoke a neon or a cavalier
they are great cars I use to have one it had over 200 thousand miles on it and was still going like a champ if it hadn't have gotten stolen I would still have it
Yes Toyota is the best brand of car you can buy. I know they have just had a recall but what company hasn't.
With all the incidents, and recalls, No.
Great cars, great service, a true value.
My dear, departed husband bought our first one over twenty years ago. Now I drive a Camry and when the time comes I'll buy another Toyota. Maybe an Avalon.
I wouldn't but it has nothing to do with the current recall.
everybody makes mistakes..I think that they are doing the responsible thing.
Nope, heard about many brakes problems.
I've told many people that they never should have put computers in cars. Most programmers do not fully debug the program before it is put in use. I agree with Steve Wozniak, there is a computer problem. I have a Chevy Silverado and i've seen it do some freaky computer related stuff involving the braking system. I worked for a factory that made computer controlled stuff and they always had newer revisions to the firmware for years to follow.
No way, not after all the car recalls.
No matter what the recall is, Toyota has already made good cars. Even the ones that have recalls, they spontaneously get on the problem and get good customer service out, to fix these problems. If I was even in the market to buy one in the future, I wouldn't phase Toyota out, especially their great Toyota Prius car(Corolla is comparable, too).
I've never had a problem with my Toyota, and I've gone through recalls with other auto makers. No design is perfect, the recent problems Toyota has had would not affect my choice.
I've never liked Toyotas..we're a Honda family all the way..Toyota looks ugly to me..there is something that completely turns me away from it =/
Heck no. I'll take just about any used American car. About the only foreign car I'll ever consider buying is an air-cooled VW/Porsche.
In response to MENTAT's answer: Did you look at the Chevy Volt lately? Also in response to another members story about being in a family who were American Loyalists whose cars were always in the shop. I am proud to tell you that I belong to one of those families(supporters and workers at GM) that my family has always owned GM cars and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM has lasted over 100,000 miles. This is in my family(Dad Mom Sister)alone: 1986 Olds 88: 138,000 miles, 1993 Olds 88: 155,000 miles, 1992 Chevy Cavalier: 146,000 miles, 1996 Chevy Corsica:128,000 miles, 1999 Chevy Venture: 173,000 miles, 2000 Pontiac Montana 141,000 miles and still driving it every day. And if your wondering we hardly did anything besides regular maintenance on all of these models. Also I keep a list of all the cars miles after we junk them.
Heck no. There are better offerings from American brands
If I wanted to a) kill myself while driving because of a gas pedal failure, b) Own a vehicle that has corrosion problems c) deal with a cheap interior or d) live with the fact that i'm supporting the Japanese economy , I would buy a Toyota.
Why did I chose my Toyota Camry? Because it was safest to drive in?
lol, it's the last thing I think of.
What were the reasons again? good design, affordable price, gas savings ... the last is safety.
Especially in TX, especially with the American, they love trucks. Talking about safety, trucks seem to be a best choice, because they are big and bulky. As long as Toyota lines are not big and bulky, they are never safe? I'm more worried about accidents caused the driver himself than a car itself.
Yes. I've had good luck with Toyotas. I'd like to buy American. It's too bad that they chose not to make fuel efficient vehicles when the first oil crunch hit. If they tell you that you can't build an American car that gets 100 miles to a gallon of gas ask them why they bought out the patents of inventors who proved it was possible.
the only cars with distinctly more relyability than toyotas is diesel toyotas. I would want that.
Yes, because they have the best hybrid car I think, the Prius!
As of Friday, February 5 they have recalled 9 million vehicles and are evaluating whether or not to issue a recall for the 2010 Prius. I see no reason to gamble on Toyota unless/until they clean up their act. Happy Saturday! :)
vt if it happened they are serving for many years

Thinking about traading in the caravan for a sienna??? Any input on them vs. the traditonal caravan????
I grew up around buy-american loyalists. Their vehicles were in the shop at least every other month. I did not even want to get started buying cars, believing they were characteristically maintenance nightmares. My first car, which I reluctantly purchased as a necessity, was a Toyota. It actually ran whenever I wanted it to. Since then I have had nothing but Toyota, Nissan, and Honda, all for over 100,000 miles and some over 200,000.
The current mysterious throttle problems are rare but are not much different from rare issues involving malfunctioning cruise control electronics on USA models, which was the subject of a 60 minutes segment a few years ago. Toyota will take responsibility and fix it, whatever it takes, rather than covering up and dragging feet like Ford did with the Pinto exploding-gas-tank problem.
The situation we are dealing with is that B. Hussein Obama is siccing big government on Toyota in an effort to prop up Government Motors and the UAW. Like everything else he has pitched, or had others pitch on his behalf, the whole effort will backfire.
Yes, Japanese cars are the best in the world, and reasonably priced for the quality. SO what if they made a mistake, theyve been making great cars for years, and they wont make the same mistake twice. Even with the defecr tthey are beter than anything the piece of crap American auto industry can produce. People who rule out toyota are idiots. I would never buy an american car; only japanese; anything manufactured in the US is crap, and that from personal experience.
me to annette1984 like really lol and i am 16
FYI: I own a 2009 Corolla and found out that only the Toyotas made in North America are being recalled...the ones made in Japan are not. This is my 3rd Toyota and if you take care of these cars you can get 300,000 miles out of them. The main thing is change the oil every 3,000 miles. I would definately buy from Toyota again.
